Five years since 'Ghost In the Shell (Koukaku Kidoutai)', Director Mamoru Oshii once again shows us what the future of cinema would be like, crossing over visual and technical boundaries. Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, the Patlabor films) and co. spent 2 years in the making of this brilliant sci-fi action film whose 6-million dollar budget is quite high for a Japanese movie. Thanks to the cooperation of the Polish armed forces who provided firearms, tanks and other hardware for the production of the film, some awsome reality is added to the battle scenes. The unique principle of Oshii's production method for the whole film was to digitalize all materials (live action, CGI, animated) and reconstruct them on computers. The film was specially presented at the 54th Cannes Film Festival.

Ash is a solo player widely regarded as the strongest in the branch. She was a member of the legendary party 'waizard' which was once hailed as invincible but broke up for the unknown reason. One day she finds a player called 'Bishop' who assimilates her style and shows excelent skill. His personal data cannot be found in the database of players and even the gamemaster resfuses to tell her about it. Soon she learns that Murphy, former leader of 'Wizard', has become an 'unreturned' - whose brain is severely damaged by the game. It appears that Murphy was trying to reach the ultimate goal of the game. The rumour says 'Avalon' has the secret final field 'Class SA' where the game cannot be reset. Murphy succeeded to access there but failed to return. While researching for 'Class SA', Ash reaches an illegal site called 'Nine Sisters'. She receives an e-mail from there telling 'Waiting for you at Class A: C66'. She goes to the unknown battlefield and finds the truth about the break-up of 'Waizard'... and much more.
