Minna No Ie (aka: All About Our House) (Region-2)

Koki Mitani directs this screwball comedy about the potential nightmare of building one's dream house. Naosuke Iijima (Naoki Tanaka) is a successful screenwriter who, along with his wife Tamiko (Akiko Yagi), is looking to build his very own house. Tamiko enlists the help of her college chum, a talented, urbane, and fantastically arrogant interior designer named Yanagisawa (Toshiaki Karasawa). He agrees but he lacks the builder's permit to do it himself; so Naosuke asks his curmudgeonly, semi-retired carpenter father Choichiro (Kunie Tanaka) to build the house. Yanagisawa's artistic pretensions soon clash with Choichiro's steadfast and stuffy conservatism. When Yanagisawa's first plan is rejected because it violates the local housing code, he returns with a new design with the theme of "Americanism." Featuring blueprints in feet and inches and an American-style front door that opens inward instead of out, the plan infuriates and bemuses Choichiro. Soon tensions rise and the building site looks more like a war zone. Will Naosuke and Tamiko ever get their dream house finished?
